Trenchless Pipe Lining in San Antonio, TX
A broken or failing sewer line is one of a homeowner’s worst fears. Traditionally, repairing these lines required deep trenches, heavy machinery, and the total destruction of your yard and landscaping. This old-fashioned process is slow, expensive, and incredibly disruptive. Fortunately, modern plumbing technology offers a far superior alternative.
Drain Connection is a Texas leader in Trenchless Pipe Lining technologies. We service all of San Antonio, Texas, and surrounding communities like Castle Hills, Alamo Heights, Stone Oak, and La Cantera. We use advanced, minimal-dig methods to restore your underground pipes from the inside out. It’s a faster, cleaner, and more cost-effective way to rehabilitate your sewer line without the need for devastating excavation.
What is Trenchless Pipe Lining?
Trenchless Pipe Lining is a method of rehabilitating an underground pipe without digging a long trench along its path. Instead of excavating your entire yard, we use small access points to perform the repair using a technique called Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP).
Also known as “epoxy pipe lining,” CIPP involves inserting a flexible, epoxy-saturated liner into the old pipe. The liner is then inflated and cured in place, forming a brand-new, seamless structural pipe right inside your existing host pipe. (See our Epoxy Lining page for more details).
Is Trenchless Pipe Lining Right for Every Sewer Problem?
Trenchless pipe lining is an excellent solution for many underground sewer problems, but it is important to understand that not every plumbing issue can be fully corrected with CIPP lining alone. Pipe lining works best when the existing pipe is structurally suitable for rehabilitation, and the problem areas can be properly identified and accessed during camera inspection and cleaning.
In some homes, additional plumbing conditions may exist that are not fully visible or accessible prior to installation, including concealed branch line defects, inaccessible fittings, severe pipe movement, foundation-related settlement, or deteriorated piping outside the lined section.
While CIPP lining can restore the integrity of identified sections of pipe, it does not correct pipe slope, standing water (“bellies”), foundation movement, or unrelated plumbing issues elsewhere in the system.
If additional conditions are discovered during inspection or installation, additional plumbing repairs or evaluation by other trades may still be recommended.
Beyond the Clog: Recognizing a Main Line Failure
This advanced repair service is designed for problems far more serious than a simple clog. You should suspect a major issue with your main sewer line that requires a professional inspection if you notice:
- Sinkholes or indentations forming in your lawn or under pavers.
- Sewage is backing up into multiple drains (toilets, showers, sinks) simultaneously.
- Gurgling sounds from your pipes, even when no water is running.
- Patches of unusually green, lush grass in your yard (indicating a sewer leak).
- Foul sewer odors inside or outside your home.
Trenchless vs. Traditional: A Clear Comparison
Understanding the difference between modern trenchless repair and old-fashioned excavation makes the choice obvious.
The Old Way: Traditional Excavation
- Process: A backhoe digs a large trench along the entire length of the damaged pipe.
- Property Damage: Your lawn, garden, driveway, and landscaping are completely destroyed in the process.
- Timeline: The project can take several days, or even weeks, from start to finish.
- Total Cost: You pay not only for the pipe repair but also for the thousands of dollars needed to restore your property.
The Smart Way: Modern Trenchless Repair
Total Cost: The “all-in” cost is significantly lower because there are no major restoration expenses.
Process: We use two small access points to avoid destructive trenching.
Property Damage: Your property remains almost entirely intact and undisturbed.
Timeline: Most projects are fully completed in just one day.
Our Trenchless Pipe Lining Process: A Modern Approach
Step 1: Camera Inspection & Planning: A thorough camera inspection allows us to diagnose the extent of the damage and determine the best trenchless method—lining or bursting—for your specific situation.
Step 2: Creating Minimal Access Points: We strategically utilize existing cleanouts or dig small access pits to reach the damaged pipe section.
Step 3: Pipe Cleaning & Prep: We thoroughly clean and descale the inside of the host pipe using hydrojetting and specialized tools to ensure the epoxy bonds perfectly.
Step 4: The Trenchless Installation: We insert and inflate the epoxy-saturated liner (CIPP), allowing it to cure and harden into a brand-new pipe inside the old one.
Step 5: Final Inspection & Restoration: We perform a final camera inspection to guarantee a flawless installation, then restore the small access points, leaving your property clean.

Frequently Asked Questions About Trenchless Pipe Lining in Texas
What is the main difference between Pipe Lining and Pipe Bursting?
Pipe Lining (CIPP) repairs a damaged pipe by creating a new pipe inside it. It requires the host pipe to be mostly intact. Pipe bursting physically destroys the old pipe while simultaneously pulling a brand-new, often larger, pipe into its place.
Is it really “no-dig”?
It’s more accurately described as “minimal-dig.” If an existing cleanout isn’t viable, we may need to dig a small entry point. However, this is a tiny fraction of the disruption caused by traditional methods, which require a massive trench down the entire length of the pipe.
How do I know if my pipe qualifies for CIPP?
You don’t have to guess! Our expert technicians will determine the best solution based on what they find during the initial camera inspection. We will explain our findings, let you know if your pipe structure can support a liner, and recommend the most effective and economical approach for you.
